Some kind soul is doing my rocker covers this weekend. I figure while we're in there might as well drop new plugs in as i dont know when they were last changed. I know the current ones have been bathing in 10-40 for some time though.
Any reccomendation on plugs? Is iridium the way to go? Considered NGK and Denso, both standard and iridium varieties.
Iridium are supposedly better but I'm not convinced these mods that last however many thousand miles are a good thing. I've come across too many filthy disgusting nasty K&N filters that have been left in far too long and can't be doing any good.
Am i better off with standard and changing them at the reccomended interval?

Vauxhall's plugs bought on Trade Club are the ones to use, they cost bugger-all too.

Hi
I used Bosch Super4 in my Senator 3.0L.
4 electrodes, and always gave good results.
But, they are expensive...
8-)

.. and the 4 electride GM ones are basically the same as Bosch Super 4's.
They last 80k miles. How much better a plug do you want than that?
Personally, I wouldn't leave them in that long as they'll either sieze or work loose.

You need to be careful what you put in a Senator. Some upset the gerabox ECU :-/ :-/ don't ask me how...... something about spurious voltage spikes. :-? :y

Use NGK or Vx's own and you shouldn't go wrong.
-
NGK from my local factors £17.94. Seems reasonable.

Not too bad if it's a set of 6...
IIRC the 4 electrode ones are about 3 quid a pop on TC from a dealers.

LOL, yeah, turning up with 4 would generate a few laughs i'm sure! ;D

im under the imprression bosch supply gm's plugs???? both twin and quad... :-/

A set of bosch plugs through the factor I work for £14.97 for a set of Bosch plugs (6) inc vat.

I personally would recommend Vx/Opel own twin prong part no. 009195109, £12.12 ex-vat with TC for six. ;)

Multi electrode spark plugs offer only one benefit......extended service life!
They can also shield the flame front which is not ideal
So, dont bother wasting your money on 4 electrode plugs, the twins are the best compromise

fitted denso irridium plugs with magnacore leads in the prelude in past and did actually find them an improvement over the Bosch 4s

And how old were the Bosch ones......and what state were the leads in.
-
the Bosch ones were virtually new, but I get your point. I really made the change because of the deteriotion of the leads. The ones I had on at first were genuine Honda ones that needed changing. At first I went for a "mid range" lead set that werent up to the job (even with new Bosch super4s) so I waited several weeks for some very expensive Honda leads from Japan. Again no joy and then saw deal that Tokyo Express had on the denso plugs and mag. leads.Spoke to them and ordered them, fitted them and it was like a new car. Take your point about it being more to do with the leads than plugs perhaps but it still ran better with mag leads and denso plugs than it did with new genuine (expensive!!) Honda leads and new Bosch plugs.

NGK Iridium spark plugs, I changed the leads and put new GM plugs in my 2.5 v6 Elite, within 4k (6 weeks) one plug was down, changed for a new set (6) the same happened again, fitted the Iridium's, great, that was 30k ago with no problem since. 155k on the clock and still going strong.

Yes, I was very carefull with my Senator. The Super4 never gave me any problems tho, car pulls like a steam train...
Sold it in auction, just waiting for buyer to collect now...

If an engine in standard tune is getting through standard plugs at this rate it points to another issue such as detonation, running too lean, or a plug heat range not suited to the engine IMHO.
Iridium plugs will survive more abuse than a standard plug but unless you have a very highly tuned, high compression engine I would not expect them to make any difference, hence it's not worth the extra money in an Omega.
In this case perhaps they are masking another problem?
Kevin

Yes, I agree it can mask other problems.
In my case out of 2 sets of 6 plug, ie 12 GM plugs, 3 were found to be dud, maybe it was a bad batch. NGK Iridium plugs were £6 each but worth every penny.
