right been looking through the cars service history book and the belt was change at 41,000 , the car is now coming upto 80,000 miles so the belt is due a change, but the car is due a full service at 83,000, should i risk it and wait until it hits the 83,000 and then just get it all done in one go or get the belt changed sooner? is the risk too high of it breaking if it does an extra 2000-3000 miles before its changed? :y
-
why not have the full service early ::)?
-
Well i guess i could do it that way too lol just trying to put off paying the big bucks for as long as i can i guess :o
-
Remember, the service intervals are MAXIMUMs, not minimums. And I sure hope you haven't stuck to the engine-destroying 20,000m service intervals!
-
no no, the car has been serviced every 10,000 ( by previous owner) and i had it serviced at 73,000. just trying to decide if its worth putting the belt change off for an extra 2000-3000 miles so i can save up a few extra quid, us security guards aint paid well ;D
-
service it yourself and save lots of bucks and have the reasurance of knowing someone who cares has done it :y
-
I really wish i could service it myself but i'll be tottally honest i aint got a clue how to lol i can change a flat tire and put oil and windscreen wash in, but thats as far as my mechanical knowledge goes ::)

10k is too long for oil as well ;)
Go check oil level now, and tell us what colour the oil is. On a petrol, should be clear or very light brown. Dark brown its getting pretty bad. Black, well, YUCK!
-
oil level is ok, 2nd notch up the stick and its a light to dark brown , how often should the oil be changed then?

Its getting towards replacing stage then.
I do my MV6 every 4k now (used to be every 3k, but oil seems to be lasting better now). Tractor obviously more often, as its a diesel.
-
maybe change mine every 5k then? thing is it would have to be another gargae job lol and i work so many crappy long hours it hard to find time to book it in
-
well my oil goes pretty black after 6k miles so I change at the 5-6k mark. Have always done so.
maybe there is someone close to you to help you get started. most of the stuff you need to do is not that tough

The oil in my diseasal Astra has been in for about 1500 miles. It was black the day after I changed it. :-? :y

You should see my drive after I removed the fuel filter, filled it with a Redex/STP/injector cleaner stuff and then gave it a boot full!
I'll have to get the jet wash out. ;D ;D ;D

Perfectly normal on the diesels - different combustion/fuel characteristics etc. I'm presently changing the tractor's oil/filter every 2500 miles due to Mrs Sethsmates stop/start local journeys.
Using Vx semi synthetic as it's well-priced!
