Title: Dash removal help?
Post by: Black Knight on 20 February 2009, 14:50:09
How on earth do you get the bloody dash out without some severe force?

Vents are out 2 + 1 screws removed and additional screw above stering coloum.

Got some movement but sure I'm gonna snap that lower tab if I pull any harder. Is there a particular technique for doing this?

Lower steering column to lowest height if plastic tab of dash is catching...

Ta, done that but still seems far too high. It was a job just to get a screw driver in.

Can force the unit upwards clear of the catch but just deosn't seem to be enough room to carefully remove. May well come out if I just pull hard enough but don't want to risk damaging it.

Do you tilt it out? Top or bottom first? Is there enough run on the cables behind or do I need to disconect them first somehow?

I lose my temper far too easy and thats why I rarely undertake shit like this.

only cable behind is the one for the display (1 plug on all 1999 cars).  So I alwasy pull left side out a little , get my hand in behind and unplug the MID, then gently wiggle it out, gently assisting it around any cables on steering column it may ctach

Thanks matey,

Thats was a help, finally got it out, didn't need to unplug the display, rested the other end on the gear lever whilst I drove round looking for somewher with the correct lamps...always thinking ahead.....Could only find 3W lamps so replaced all four with those. Just a much of a bugger to get back in but I'm sure it will be far easier next time round.

Thanks again. :y
