Started the grey v6 last saturday so that I could move the car out of the garage to take the pics of the new wheels, as its been about 6 months since I last started the car ( I know too long) The tappets were rattling like my teeth on a frosty morning,
The oil was changed about 8 months ago, so Im going to do it again this weekend, apart from doing the change and running the car more often, is there a way of preventing th oil from draining out of them? It took nearly an hour of the engine idling to get rid of the noise completely.
cheers

It'll just be a 'tappet' that has been stopped with a cam loading it for the last 6 months and has been taking its time unsticking. I suapect that it'll be OK when you start using the car more regularly - every 5 months! ;D

Don't be tempted to keep starting it to avoid this. It won't do it any harm whereas if you keep starting it and letting it idle without driving it it won't do it any good at all.

problem is that the car isnt used at all, hasnt been for 3 years now. apart from changing the oil every year, a cambelt kit change last year and running the car every couple of months it hasnt done any mileage at all.

No problem with that. If the car is not being used, give it some fresh fluids and then lay it up properly. It's much better not to run it at all for 3 years than to keep starting it up without giving it a decent run. Running it will build up acids and moisture in the crankcase and exhaust which would normally be driven off by the heat on a decent run.

i know many a biker that insist on starting their bike over the winter just to, well not sure really, just make sure it starts i think. They dont use it over winter and come summer when they do actually ride it, wonder why the exhaust is rusty and it has a missfire with cloudy oil in the site glass.
