Title: Idle when cold
Post by: Dawes on 21 February 2009, 22:28:20
Hi Guys, just bought my 2.5 V6 Omega and I'm really pleased with it but I do have one small concern. When cold the engine can rev a little all by itself although this does not happen when warm. Would this be fairly common with the V6 (petrol)? I'm hoping it's something simple like airflow but I'm a bit of a joke when it comes to spannering so would appreciate any pointers in the right direction.

Just have a look at the ICV  air pipe for small hole's,as they seem to confuse the engine ecu.
Also check the intake pastic air pipes for signs of cutting from the retaining clips.

Have a gentle spray around with a bit of carb cleaner, if/when the engine note changes you have found the area of a vac leak ... really does help pinpoint leaks ... once you've found the leak, wipe down with paper towel and you also have a really nice clean engine .. :)  then fix the leak .. :)

Just trying to remember the idle speed when cold, about 900 rpm? Something like? Would an air leak only show when cold?

don't know if the same but on the senny's they would run a bit faster on startup ,it was to warm the cats up  haven't noticed it on the mig maybe it's the norm to me.

Mine runs at 1000rpm when very cold drops quickly warm morning just tad over tickover, ecu controls it.
Would be looking for probs if the revs did`nt settle when warm.

Left of the oil filler, silver cylindrical thingy.Take it off, blast the inside with carb cleaner, put it back.Takes about 10 minutes. :y
