well today i took the family for a day out !! got about 20 miles away and the car started to lack power (felt like it was running on 5 instead of 6 ) so i checked around the engine but found nothing ,so i called rac out .The guy plugged in his computer and it is saying crankshaft sensor ,can anyone tell me where it is and what sort of job it is to do please ,also is it a vx part or can i get one from motor discount shop

Do you have an EML light on ???
also .. check for stored codes by doing the "paperclip" test
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687
let us know the results .. I'm always hesitant about instant diagnostics .... :(
-
Get genuine Vx.
Bolted into engine passenger side near oil filter & runs up to electrical connector under scuttle behind plenum. Fairly easy to do on V6.
-
Its beside the oil filter, held on with 1 torx bolt.If replacing it read the fitting guide on the forum,as routing the wiring as per original is very difficult and also a very bad idea,as it fries the wiring.
Need to get one from VX,around £65 iirc.
Before you replace it do the paperclip test to confirm diagnosis, should give a code 19 (with engine running).
P.Sdont bother trying to remove the old onefrom the car, just leave it attached to the loom and put the new one on as per the guide. :y

ok i am back from the paper clip test and all i am getting is 12 over and over again , and nothing else ,and thanks for the link Albitz .this is now got me pulling my hair out ,as R.A.C says crankshaft sensor ,but paper clip not showing anything !!!! but sill running but very rough as if only firing on five
-
Check spark plug wells for oil :y
-
will do that again in the morning ,i hope it is not that as i have just done the cam cover seals on the drivers side but did check drivers side earlier ,cheers
-
If you keep getting 12 then there are no faults stored, which is good news.As weelung said ,you should check for oil in plug wells (caused by blocked breathers)which can damage the plugs/leads/ dispack.
-
cheers ,well looks like a strip down again in the morning of the beathers ,and a good look at plugs etc while i am that far ,i will chuck a set of new plugs in while i am on with it ,getting well sick of this car now ,but i need it up and running for next week to get to aberdeen and back ,thanks again
-
just a update ,stripped down the breathers ,they seem ok nice and clean ,so went a bit further ,stripped out dis pack ,and have a split and rusting under number 1 and 4 ,so now trying to get hold of one ,as i think this is the problem if it is not ,well it needs changing anyway
-
That is quite common and almost certainly the cause of the rough running.Loo-knee/elite pete/markey mark/mutantcav all break omegas
worth a pm to them before you go and pay vx prices. :y
-
hi Albitz ,thanks for that i wil ontact them ,i have marks e mail ,i have called a few places today locally and the wanted to know if square or round holes !!! any idea what they mean by this ?
-
I think it refers too the wiring plug, there are different types, you could take it off and have a look or if you give a vx dealer your reg.no. they may be able to give you the correct part no.for your car. :y
-
cheers mate ,i have the diss pack now off the car ,and have the part number ,so i will call them back in the morning as i need asap ,thanks again for all your help ,just hope this cures my problems !!
-
