Afternoon all. Nickname Villa. I am from swindon and my 1998 2ltr gls auto has decided on its own to activate the cars immobaliser causing the car to run like a bag of rollox ( spelling changed to protect the innocent).
Car now in garage. Can this be reset and would it cost a bomb?

It turned over once then stopped. garage in swindon (Mr Clutch) were it was recovered to plugged a diagnostic computer into it and thats what the computer came up with..
I thought it might be the idle control valve failed. New cat fitted two weeks ago and it was also tuned and serviced.

IF its an immolbiliser related issue then the ECU light will flash whn the car cuts out.
Has the key been taken apart recently?
Do you have a spare key you can try?

Yes the ECU light did flash after it attempted to tick over but then cut out immediatly.
I only have one key for the car and a new battery was put into the fob about six months ago. But the remote has never worked since my ownership of the vehicle one year ago so i lock and unlock the car by inserting key into lock as normal.

Its not the key or the remote, its the transponder that sits in the key. If you have horseshoe style key, when you pull remote off, the transponder chip often goes flying...

Its a horse shoe type key i think. The key comes away from the main part. How is this resolved if that is the cause please.

If you haven't got the chip, then it'll be a new chip and a chat with a TechII but you'll need your car pass.

I have to say that the words 'Mr Clutch' do fill me with dread when it comes to the compitence stakes!

I agree. They have had the car for a week now and even have an ex Vauxhall Technician working for them.

Pull key apart, in the horseshoe should be a small chip (you'll see recess in the fob section for it to help you locate where it should be).
If its missing, check the carpets.
