Where would be the best to get a new 3 button key for the car ... im able to program it so i just need the blank .... just dont fancy paying Vx prices :y

Its work paying a few extra quid for new one if its not much more, seeing as the buttons do get problematic over time

A proper Tech II, although IIRC some of the better generic code readers will programme them.

Infra red have a little dome near the sunroof switch.

Then it must be Rf. There is nothing near the switch

96 will be RF, thus (real) Tech2 or similar.
94 and earlier 95 are IR, so need Tech1 or similar

Only if same make and style. Can't remember if the facelift estate ones (saloon all 3 button) are compatible...

written on back of fob. try looking under different lighting conditions, as its a bugger to read...

Is that the one you'r using (unusal to see Bosch one on prefacelift)?
If its not same type and make as existing one, its no good

Have you had it programmed to car? If not, PM Hotel21, who has the facilities. You will need carpass.

As far as I know all the Delphi 3 button keys that fit the Omega horseshoe key are the same...

Used keyfobs in general are quite greasy, also I keep the iron in there for as short a time as possible.
As I pre tin the switches I have to melt the pads back then hold together and try to solder within 2 seconds.
It is a strong joint and it is well flowed not dry.
My soldering may not be that neat but it will last.
That Corsa was a right bugger though, it was greasy, covered in a strange substance and needed a good clean.
Remember those pads are only about 2mm square and the switch lug about 1.5mm wide, blown up shows any flaws much more than looking at it directly.

1 switch about 1/2mm off line, if they line up with the buttons OK I'd rather leave them like that than reheat the board.
My solder joints are fine, been soldering for over 30 years. Not done too much surface mount though.

The 2 button are the worst to fit, you need to get two pins solder molten at the same time

You dont need to tin the switch contacts (they are tin dipped)
You do need to solder wick the old solder off the pads first (it wil be oxidised and not flow well again).
Then its a case of locate the switch and quick reflow of the old solder to hold it in place.....then solder the opposite end with fresh and repeat on the original.....
Should be better than production using the above methods.
Alcohol is very good for cleaning the boards to remove nasty substances and flux residue

There was corrosion inside the cover, it took quite a while to clean, especially around the battery holder.

I use meths, the other components are not good - sometimes the joints are snapped.
I do retin them as I find the solder flows around the pins better, and I can clean the flux off before fitting.
I usually find very little solder left after switch removal - I normally cut them off, excess solder wiped off with kitchen towel.
My joints may not be overly neat but defiantely better than standard ;D
I'll get the wick though - good idea
BTW I have repaired around 50 fobs now!

i was always taught surgical spirits as it leaves no residue?
