Post by: Omegadoha, Desert Member on 25 February 2009, 17:44:05
When claying your car, what material do you need in addition to the clay bars? Also which is the best one to go for?

Any tips please

Thinking of doing this myself soon. I think you need to keep the clay moist by using some sort of lube!

I've got the Meguires kit, used it a few times, but never on the mig  ;D

Very good kit, think Auto Express did a test on clay kits recently, the only one that didnt do very well was the Halfords own.

You need to keep the clay/panel damp, the Meguires kit comes with a 'quick detailer', a watery polish. Tis easy to use, just spray and wipe the clay over the area untill it doesnt drag, you can tell when its clean!

I'll try and remember to get some pics when I use it on the Mig, eventually!

Autobalm by Bilt-hamber comes highly recommended - I get it for a tenner a block from Elite Car Care. Only needs tap water as lube, is far easier to work with than the Megs kit, and you can do a whole Omega with a quarter of the bar... so it works out cheaper too.
Even doing my 15-year-old winterbox Micra (prepping for sale, I've not gone mad), I only used a third of the bar, and it was obviously a lot harder work than my Omega, despite being smaller.

Quick detailer contains a cleaning agent.
