More tractor problems i`m afraid guys. Doing a nice steady 75 up the A19 yesterday running sweet as a nut, slight flicker on oil warning light, thought ìd check at next petrol station, within 200 hundred yards loss of power so i pulled in. Quick glance under the bonnet and nothing untoward - but theres a trail of oil where i`ve pulled in and oil all along the nearside of the car. As it was getting dark ive not had a chance to look yet but I`m going back to see this morning hoping its not terminal. Had full service 5k ago. No obvious noises before this happened, and engine was still turning when i pulled over. Whats any clues anyone??? Before i start a fire underneath the bloody thing!!! :'( :'( :'(

As soon as the oil light came on then its probably too late. By the sounds of it theres a pipe/hose failed somewhere. Could also be failed filter, cracked sump...
Lack of oil and the turbo will probably be the first casualty (hence the lack of power).
Oh - and at 5k since the last service its overdue an oil change..
-
Well thats brightened up my Sunday!! Would the turbo die THAT quickly???
-
Probably not - but that depends on how good it was upto that point as conventional turbo bearings rely on a bearing surface made of high pressure oil - no oil pressure and no bearing surface. If you were just gently cruising along then the turbo might have just stopped spinning rather than siezed.
I'm going for the worst case scenario, by the way.
Find the leak, fix the leak, refill with oil, start it and see....

This may seem very silly, but just check that the oil filler neck is not loose/missing or the cap has disappeared. ::) ::) ::)
You mention a service recently, and oil being down the nearside of the engine; well one main dealer garage left the filler off one of our company cars >:( >:(, and if this is what has happened with yours, the oil would be down the nearside of the engine.
Silly may be, but worth a check before you look at far more serious implications!! :o :o :o

n s side col a big leak i would check oil cooler/pipes
-
Cheers Lizzie - yeah i`ll check when i get over there. Hopefully i can find something simple in the pool of tractor blood. :y
-
Or oil filter seal gone and spraying oil everywhere (if oil fiter is in roughly same place as on the v6?)
-
Cheers M/Cav sounds logical, ok guys going to see the damage now -wish me luck!!!! :y :y

Could well be oil cooler pipe(s).

Hi guys - well got her towed back home (yikes auto - but only 16 miles at 40 mph!!) wheel and plastics off. cant see any oil (other than spray) above or to the side of the oi cooler. so that looks like the culprit. To remove, is it a case or removing hoses and the cooler is simply `seated` in position? i imagine the only way to test anything would be to fill the system up agin and look for leaks? there is a fair bit of corrosion on the metal pipes but even after cleaning them off its next to impossible to see anything :'(
