Title: throttle body
Post by: andy3264 on 24 February 2009, 06:18:49
I seem to be leaking water from around the throttle body and i think it is also into the cylinders through here and causing missfire as the coolant level is going down. I dont think the head gasket has gone as there are no bubbles in header tank and engine oil is not contaminated, any ideas chaps  :-[

If the 2.2 one is a similar construction as the 2.0 one, then there's a water jacket around the breather jet - see the How2 on cleaning 2.0 breathers for pics...also another water heated section on there as well from memory?

No water heated sections on the manifold per se.

Iirc, if you unscrew the piece where the two water pipes connect there is a rubber seal and there may be a sort of steel core plug.
I remember a similar problem on a 2.0 years ago and I robbed a part off a spare throttle body to fix it.

:-[Have just replaced throttle body gasket and cleaned out all breather pipes. Upon removing the body found water in the body around the butterfly, at bottom of inlet manifold and 3/4 the way along inside the air intake pipe from the body towards the air filter. It looks like the water was leaking past the gasket and down the side of the body. As i have said there are no bubbles in header tank so could it still be the head gasket. My emmisions light is still on constantly. Any ideas guys as this one is realy baffling me :(

If there's water in the inlet manifold then i'd think it unlikely that its from the head gasket.

Is it just water or antifreeze mix?

It seems  just to be water, but there was quite a bit pooled at bottom of inlet manifold which i soaked up

It should be on the back of the cylinder head with the coil pack mounted on it. Remove the screws that hold on the whole bracket anlong with the coil pack.

slightly different on a 2.2

Those two torx bolts hoding the egr can be tight -make sure you have the correct size socket and plenty of leverage :y :y
