A mystery indeed but my washer bottle was running low on water. I refilled it and the washers stopped working. I can't even hear the washer pump running. The light washers work so could it be a fuse? If so, which one and where?
Help!

unplug the hl washer so you can see/hear the ws washer working, could be clogged frozen or an air lock, you may need to pull the pump out AND the rubber grommit and clean the built in filter, water may poor out the hole though

Dead as a Dodo. Just turned the lights off rather than uplugging the headlamp washers but there isn't any noise at all.
No ice here by the way!

Have you got any thing to test for voltage at the screen washer pump plug when you operate the washers? Multimeter or even a small lamp on 2 wires? A new generic pump doesn't cost much to buy, but you need to check for voltage first before you buy a new pump.
-
if the small rubber filter is blocked you will prob have burnt out the pump !! have a few spares here if you need one :y
-
See guide in Maintenence guides to remove pump and check for clogging.
If you don't use screenwash in the water, these are prone to clogging the filter. Worse still, as the headlights don't have a filter, it buggers up the extender parts, at £55+VAT a pop.

Thanks for the info. I do have a mult-tester so will check the voltage first. Anyone know where does the pump sits, in relation to the engine? Are there any pictures I can download to show where I should be heading?
Thanks again.
Greg
Ps. I always use lots of screenwash and I believe the filter was changed a couple of years ago.

Take your grille off, 2 or 3 self tappers at the top, and it's right there behind the bumper. :y The bigger pump is for the head lamps and the other is the screen washer pump. :y
The filter is incorporated into the sealing grommet that the pump pushes into. It's not a filter that needs changing, just washing out once in a while.

Thanks Andy B. I will check later this afternoon and report back!

im having the exact same problem, but i am so confused here where the grommet and pump is. i took the bumper off last week but didnt have a clue. are these the 2 connectors for the pump, and is it the left one to check for voltage??

Mmm? Yes I think it's the left hand pump. Pull the connection off the top of the pump (there's a cover over it to protect it from the elements), gently lever the pump away from the side of the bottle (the bottle is shaped so that it holds onto the pump) and pull the pump upwards to remove. The filter/grommet is fitted into the hole that the pump has just been pulled out of. Pull the filter/grommet out of the bottle and you'll likely find it's all slimey and full of gunge.

pulled pump and grommet out and pump has started working again. water is flowing ok. i take it the other bit of this grommet is in the bottle now. i presume the water has caused this to happen cheers, :y :y

Can this be done without taking the bumper off?
Out of interest are the pumps on the same fuse as the headlamp washers?

Can this be done without taking the bumper off? Me fears not 'cause I can't seem to access it even having removed the grill.
Quick question. Are the pumps on the same fuse as the headlamp washers?
Greg
is yours not the same as mine, mines a 98 2.5. i took the connector off. the one on the left in the pic, then just pulled the pump out, bit stiff but quite easy, the grommet is in the hole.
-
I've got a huge air intake pipe in the way (I'm guessing that's what it is), so I can't reach the pump. Mine's a '98 3.0 litre so I suppose it could be different to the 2.5.
Any ideas how I can remove this big pipe to access the washer pump?
Many thanks

Torx headed self tapper towards the top, I can just see mine with the grille still in place, then pull it off. It's just a push fit into the next bit of ducting back.
-
Thanks. I will try tomorrow in the light. Couldn't quite see where the ducting join was though or if it went into the wing? So once the screw is out, should I just give it a tug and see?

I thinks so, I think I might have even just moved it up out of the way.
-
Did try moving it out of the way but its made of quite a rigid plastic.
-
There is a guide to removing pump in Maintence Guides section

Brute force and ignorance work well with that pipe :y
-
Help. Had a look at the maintenance section but whilst I now know that the ducting is where the air intake starts, I still can't get to the back of it sufficiently to access the washer pump.
Any suggestions?
Greg
Ps Just seen the previous post so I will drag it out if need be. Please do tell me if I shouldn't!

I have never had to remove the intake pipe :-/

Took a while and a dodgy part bought off Ebay, supposedly genuine, it wasn't, but it's now working. I managed to yank the air duct out of the way. Bit of a fiddle and I couldn't have done it without you guys, so thank you.
Greg
BTW the problem was a seized washer pump!
