Post by: nick v6 on 06 March 2009, 10:30:34
well my sat nav arrived today and ive just been looking at the wireing

ive noticed a conector where a load of wires have been cut from the original car and not 100% sure where it all goes

i had a look on the thread by tb and the extra wires i have got on not listed on there

this how it came
(http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr264/nickandann123/DSC00286.jpg)

thats with the 6 pin connector taken off
(http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr264/nickandann123/DSC00287.jpg)
there is wires coming off the conector and going to the loom for the satnav and the same wires again coming and have been cut off
plus there is an extra brown wire and a extra red wir with a fuse

thats the 6 pin connector

The plug thats part of satnav loom, don't worry about extra wires on that - just insulate them properly.

The bit it plugs into, these need to be extended a bit, and wired in to the horrid connector in passenger footwell.  Its tight and awkward.

I may have to add an extra pin to that connector so all 6 are populated - some seem to come with only 5 wires, and the 12v is picked up from elsewhere.  I reckon its easier to do it so everything (except the 0v) comes through that connector.

The 0v - I used an earthing stud up above passenger kick panel.

yes, just seen.  Personally I would wire the 6th one through the connector just to make it easier to remove in future, but makes no real difference to be honest.

On a 1994 car?  Absolutely, 100%, dead certain, no rather chance ;D

Connector only fitted from part way through the 1998MY run.  Coincided with when the TC switch got moved from left of radio to main switch bank.

As to GPS aerial, mine wasn't in the loom, so I put mine just above the metal shelf (but below carpet) above the carin unit.

Seen a few speakers fail on them.  If you have a small speaker purely to test.  If it is the speaker, sure Craplins and the like will do one

Eh? Why would it?

Best way to test is to go into volume settings, and adjust volume up or down. Each time you do this, it will say 'Louder' or 'Softer'

I moved mine up to main switch bank, next to drivers heated seat switch.  I have a early 1998 car, so it has soft touch buttons that are more common. Older cars need the harder ones, and so you're looking for a Vectra B swtich

Later ones fused in fusebox from memory, earlier ones (without the loom plug) as fused inline behind glovebox

Just curious, as mine has locked up completely in the past and wouldn't respond at all, a 'reboot' might have helped! ;D (99 car)

Fingers crossed .... it hasn't done it for a while now

You must have girlie sized hands if you can get to the plug with the cd unit in situ ;), I'd looked there but could get my shovels in there!  ;D ;D

If you're going M40/A34/M4 way, I'm 6m from Jnc10 of M40 (the junc just before the A34 one at Bicester).  Dual Carriageway all the way as well :)
