Title: Swapping headlight lenses on prefacelift
Post by: John Lewis on 02 March 2009, 15:12:17
Hi

Can this be done, or is it easier to replace the whole unit? New car = yellow lenses, old car = perfect. Wanna swap before the scrappers get it  :y

yup you can t-cut them & they come up o,k, but if you really want to change them then heat up the edge of lense with a hairdryer a bit at a time & they come off with a tug :y

It's a quick swap (whole unit) unless you have washers, they are attached to the lamp & have to be unscrewed to get the lamp out>

Is there any sort of precaution to be taking like marking position of the old ones? Basically will I end up with one pointing up in the sky with the other down, or is the alignment etc all done within the unit? lol. Gonna do it this arvo as per the guide, obviously starting with the scrapper!!

EDIT: No, no washers present mate on either.

3 screws to locate headlight to wing / front crossmember so should be fairly fixed position.

But the sealant sticks to the fingers like S**t to a Blanket & is difficult to remove even with meths

Cheers guys - upon closer inspection I found the arm to hold in the bottom bolt on the newer looking lights had sheared off on one of the two!! T Cut it is then...just the normal wax is it and a bit of elbow grease?
