Title: Cam Belt Change
Post by: Robmetaxa on 19 February 2009, 14:37:18
Didn't want to Hijack someone elses topic, so thought I would start my own, just found out that the recommended interval between the cam belt change has now been reduced from 8 years, 80k - 4 years 40k for my 2.6 V6 51 plate 2002 Mig!! as I am now on 63k without a change i'm now just a little worried, just phoned Vauxtech near Southampton and been quoted £230 + VAT for the job, always knew it wasn't a cheap job, but is this the average for a garage (Ok they are not Vx but only do Vauxhalls, so hope they know there stuff!!) to complete the job.
Thanks
Rob

Not a bad price IMHO, but make sure they do use the V6 locking kit.

Sounds about right to me - 2hours labour cost (average labour costs of £50/hour) = £100 + cost of belt (retail) = £70 - £100 = £200 + vat (200 x 15%= £30) - a total of £230 if my maths is correct. :y

Well job is now done, so no more worries for another few years, came to £263 all in, changing tensioner etc and VAT, seem a good bunch of blokes at Vauxtech!

I've got a genuine VX cambelt kit, brand new, unused I would sell you for £100 and I would lend you the locking kit for free if you buy it. :)

Try these people http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/timing-belt-kit-vauxhall.php?pageNum_Recordset1=17&totalRows_Recordset1=313- tell them 2.6 V6 and give engine nş - for 2.5V6 £54.44 + VAT for belt + kit (all tensioners etc).  Belts are Contitech (Vx OEM supplier) & all bearings SKF.

I bought two kits for V6 off them and they were marked GM on the belts!

Daz - hope you don't mean Contitech kit not genuine Vx - they are OEM supplier to Vx, along with Gates.  As I said both the ones supplied to me were marked GM on the belts + Vx part nş (can't remember part nş now as both fitted Aug last year!) and all other parts supplies had SKF bearings fitted (as do Vx parts!)

Being a Vx OEM supplier does not mean their own branded parts are to the same quality. Invariably then are not.

In this case, the contitech kits are good though.

Is there a recommended garage to replace cambelt near Heathrow. Also can you recommend online shops to buy a genuine GM :) cam kit.
