Hi, my father-in-law has got a 2000 omega 2.5TD. It starts fine from cold but takes ages to fire up when warm. It runs fine when its got goin tho. The previous owner tried to sort it by puttin a new in-tank pump on it. And my father-in-law had someone out to it that did an upgrade or something on the ecu, but still not sorted.
any ideas???

It's certainly not the first time for me to say this ........
Lash out and fit a brand-new reputable battery OF THE CORRECT SPEC for a 2.5TD.
It's cured mine (even after a new injection pump at £1200 quid) nearly a year ago. Try doing this on yours and let us know.

thanks for the info. :y let me no how you get on and i'll do the same!

Read my post carefully mate - I've effected the cure!

i really can't see it being the battery. it cranks over more than fast enough whether hot or cold, its definately not lacking power!

Same problem with mine. Only happens badly when I'm below 20l in fuel tank. I,m sure it's a leak at the lift pump letting air in. I just make sure I'm fuelled over this until I fit an external pump when the warmer weather arrives: http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/viewthread.php?tid=5464&page=1#pid46211

Fuel level below the 20 litre mark is usually associated with the in-tank pump gubbins.
Often, it seems to be the ribbed transfer pipe that's at fault. This connects from the T-connector to the base of the swirl chamber. There may also be a build-up of crud at the bottom of the chamber, or on the fine mesh screen below the pump.

When I had the hot start problem on mine, it was the Starter, I changed the battery the previous year (in the autumn and cooler weather), but, as soon as the warmer weather returned last year, so did the hot start issue, this eventually lead to me burning out the starter. When I replaced it (About 200 quid) it worked fine and has been fine ever since.

I took mine apart and gave it a clean. Lost the little clip that lets you release the ribbed tube from the pump, so it is on for good now. Still the same problem, so air is getting in somewhere I think. This is not a major problem as far as I'm concerned. Still a good old bus!
