Can anyone reccomend a good make of head gasket set for a 30. ltr V6? as a minimum I need 2 headgaskets, 24 valve stem oil seals and 4 cam cover gaskets.
Cheers, Mick.

Use genuine Cam Cover gaskets only.
MarksDTM will no doubt tell you where to get head gaskets from
-
I would only use genuine as well :y

Thanks for the advice chaps, I thought it might be best to use genuine cam cover gaskets , but has anyone any experience of using aftermarket headgaskets? I would rather not buy vauxhall ones after the robbing b*st*rds quoted me £62 EACH for 6 exhaust valves!

After market H/G's are fine, you just need the get them from the right place, hence my comment about Marks DTM pointing you in the right direction ;)

The head gaskets are Elring which are the same as Vx use anyway.
Re-use the cam seals.
Fit genuine exhaust manifold seals or get them here:

Genuine cam cover gaskets!
If you are re-building your current heads then inspect the valve guides VERY carefuly for signs of cracking or damage!
Also be aware that the exhaust valves on the V6 are sodium filled.
It might well be better to get good second hand heads so you know the valve guides are good plus you get teh full set of valves and then re-furb them
-
Thanks for that info MarksDTM, I will contact them today.
I have already started rebuilding the heads, with 6 new guides and
6 new exhaust valves on one head, and 6 new inlet valves on the
other. it was borderline whether it was worth doing, or using second
hand, but it hasn't worked out to bad costwise (so far!)
Is it worth removing and cleaning out the breather box thing at the
rear of the offside bank while the heads are off or is it better to leave
well alone?
Cheers , Mick.

I dont tend to.
It is worth popping the oil cooler plate off and re-sealing that whilst the heads are off

sodium filled exhaust valves?
-
sodium filled exhaust valves?
Yep!
The sodium filling helps cooling....and exhaust valves (as you would expect) run very hot
-
My valve supplier assured me when I bought the replacement exhaust valves that they are sodium filled, they are Italian apparently , made by Osvat. at least they're not Chinese. not that i'm racist or anything.

iirc only the 3.0 have sodium valves :-/

I bought Trechii head gaskets (can't remember make as they are in the garage).
Also valve seals - my new ones are green and metal
