I started the omega two days ago to hear the sound of escaping gas from inside the air vents. If i turned the AC to eco mode the hissing stopped and in auto mode setting the temperature to Lo now does not produce any increased cooling effect. I suspect the evaporator has a hole in it and the AC gas is escaping. Has anybody exchanged the evaporator? is it an easy job or is it burried deep in the dash needing a full dash out job which would not be worth the effort for me. My car is a year 2000 elite 3.0 final shape.

AC needs discharging (specialist job) glovebox out, remove blower motor,disconnect refrigerant pipes at the bulkhead,remove expansion valve from evaporator then remove evaporator from distribution unit :'( :'( :'(. Not really a DIY job. >:(

If there's a hole in the evaporator, it doesn't need profesionally discharging .... it'll already be discharged! ;) ;) :y

it may not be an ac problem. the heater control unit is vacuum powered - if you've got a vac leak that's the sound you'll get. one way of checking is to disconnect the vac supply, there are two vac hoses through the bulkhead - one to the HBV the other is vac suppy - disconnect it- if your hissing stops then you've got a vac leak in the heater control system.
