Was out in my 2002 2.2dti and put my foot on brakes when stationary, the pedal went slowly to floor - felt like a seal had suddenly gone. Has anyone else had this and can give me some pointers for a quick/economic fix?

find the leak.
what is fluid level like?
-
i would think you have a leak in the system somewhere. check level, if that ok. try and trace through where all hoses etc lead to.
-
my other halfs astra used to do that sometimes, it turned out to be the master cylinder ;)
-
I'd go for Alf suggestion of the master cylinder too. You'd need two leaks on a split circuit brake system for the pedal to go to the floor.
-
thanks all - the master cylinder makes sense so will check that first

As others master cylinder.

Had the seals go on the master cylinder in the Pontiac. Found out at 80mph traveleing downhill towards a walled round about that they didnt work anymore.
and yes the power of prayer really works as I am still here to talk about it.

just had car looked at - apparently the brake pipe in the middle of the car at the back has sheared off possibly due to rust - so much for dual line brakes.

Well that shot us all down but the problem as described is useualy the master cyl, someone did though suggest a faulty hose.
