Title: Knocking at low revs, Big ends or autobox?
Post by: astramega on 15 March 2009, 21:45:00
Hello people, have recently purchased a 1995 3.0 elite and it has developed a knocking at low revs mainly when cold!
From listening beside the car it sounds like a bottom end fault but have also heard that it could be a gearbox problem?? Any advice would be much appreciated on any common faults on the bottom end or the autobox.
Thanks.

Hello mate, does the knocking increase with engine speed, an does it it ease when the engine is warmed up??

Yes mate it does increase with engine speed and gets quieter when warm....at some points the knocking goes completely when the engine is hot!

Well i cant actually think of anything TO knock in the gearbox - especially if its an auto. Try the simplest/cheapest first, if you`ve just got the car you wont know for sure which oil it has in or when it was last changed? Drop the oil and filter and replace with some 10/40 semi-synthetic, then give that a whirl. :y :y
