I watched them MOT my other car last week, didn't see them look at the reversing lights........Not sure about front fogs might be like rear wipers not compulsary fitments, so not tested.

If fitted lights must work (i.e fogs)

front fogs are not required, however if they are fitted to the car they must work. a picky tester can fail the car on that ground

hi folks just to clear it up the first post is correct . i am a tester( just to clarify) lol . even if front fogs fitted and dont work is only an advisory. and reverse lights not checked as part of mot requirements, but a good tester may check them any way and advise they not working. hope this helps! :D

the way ive always known it that if its fitted to the car it has to work or it will be a fail :y

my mot testers has never checked either of these on any of my cars
there is no requirement to check according to the website

easiest way to find out is to mot your car and see what happens

No & No up to you whether the reversing lights work, only thing I can think of plod being interested with reversing lights is if the switch was faulty and the lights were on whilst driving normaly.

If you've got a manual gearbox, why not change the reverse light switch? It costs around a tenner, and an easy job.
Front fogs - either fix them, or for a quick fix, simply cover them with black insulation tape. The tester definately won't say anything then .... !

having been an MOT tester for 5 years can confirm that reverse lights and front fog lights not working will NOT  fail a test  :y :y :y

But could these attract an advisory notice though?

9 out of 10 testers prob would not bother with an advisory so should be nothing of concern :)

My front fogs u/s.  New bulbs from Halford £9.09 for a pair.  Now working.

Reverse lights intermitant.  New switch coming from Vaux-World. about £7.50.

So for less than £20, should all be working soon.

Always understood, if fitted, gotta work.  £20 peace of mind :D
