There is a very useful how to on how to clean the scuttle drain by Marie...however...how do you clean the leaves out if you dont have arms as skinny as Maries??

mmm...practical solution ..get someone who has skinny arms like Maries(Hi Marie) to do it for you while you supervise and enjoy a cup of tea. :y

Hmmm child labour is a good idea but eldest is only 3 so wouldnt be able to reach :( Girlfriend is always an option but she would say no yuck! lol How about a pressure washer aimed firmly at the obstruction? Would work I would have thought and would be fun at the same time :y

The guy who does my MOTs (shall remain nameless) is about 8in taller than me and his arm goes right in and he can remove the 'beak' from the bottom which is ideal for cleaning. I can't even touch it.
The 'beak' (vented grommet) is external to the heater air-intake chamber but access there is also difficult. If you can find a way to get at it there, you could push leaves through the hole with a stick.
I am VERY wary of pressure-washers 'cos they get water where it won't drain out!
I drain mine by poking the 'beak' with a small dowel until the chamber is empty. If you can then get it to dry out, a vacuum cleaner could help you.
Avoid the temptation to remove or puncture the 'beak' as it helps prevent engine bay fumes from entering the passenger compartment.

Its easy to get at on the post 1998 ones where it exits into the engine bay.
Simply remove the oil filler neck ( lift tab and rotate as its a bayonet fitting), put a cloth in the hole in the cam cove where the filler fitted (or use the oil cap instead).
You cna now get your am down to the 'beak'......and firtle the thing out.....flush through and re-fit.

Pre 1998.5 is not so bad either - bit of stiff wire where it exits in wheel arch.
