Hi
Have a problem today just managed to get home then did a paper clip test..Fault codes reading as follows.
73 Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
74 Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High
19 Incorrect RPM Signal
Think ive read the codes correctly but where do i go from here..
Down the pub is a good idea.. ;D
-
for the maf try putting a cable tie round the plug to pull it in to maf socket other is lambda sensor playing up :y
-
Crank sensor faulty....which can often also throw the MAF codes
-
as mdtm says, the MAF codes are often erroneously thrown up when crank sensor fails
-
Cheers Guys..
Will replace the sensor then i think its up for sale, I fancy a change.. :)
-
Ok I changed the crank sensor,,Still the same.
Will tick over but as soon as i put throttle down it does not want to know..
Read the codes again 19 has cleared
still showing.

Any ideas whats next anyone..

Ok does anyone think it might be the MAF.. :question
Answers on a postcard... ::)

21 is the throttle position sensor. Have you checked for any damaged cabling or shorting (voltage high). :question Now "sod off" ;D ;D
-
Nothing visible....
I could go for an eye test though.. :D
-
Have you tried driving it with the MAF disconnected :question
-
Not yet it got too dark to mess about in the end so will try a few things tomorrow...
-
Post up results with it disconnected :)
-
Will post up tomorrow :y

Ok disconnected the MAF sensor, Car still running the same but threw up code 57 so now i have

I will soon be up to ten codes this way.. :D
The car ticks over, As soon as you try to give it throttle it splutters, in fact it has backfired through the air filter a few times..
You can get it to rev quite fast and it stays there no problem but letting off the throttle back to tick over then try to throttle again then splutter splutter.. ;D
A few weeks ago i posted about possible fuel contamination.I fueled up at the local Morrisons and within a mile it didnt want to tick over, anyway after complaining and sending trading standards there they come back to me and said.
The supermarket had a delivery of petrol on Saturday morning. I fueled up on Saturday afternoon but, They also had a delivery on Sunday afternoon, strange i would say, so therefore Trading standards couldnt take a sample..I offered a sample from my car but no reply..
What i am getting at is, would it have buggered up my Lambda sensor and would these symptoms point to the Lambda..
-
57 is the IACV you`ve got no code there for the lambda sensor. All I can suggest (with code 21 as well) is clean the IACV and the throttle body :-/
-
How you reading the codes Russ, paperclip or code reader?
I'm asking as if its with a paperclip some of them could be old codes and no longer relevant to your problem.
Even a cheapo reader should be able to tell you if its a current or old fault code and let you clear them to see what it's complaining of now.
-
Paper clip John..As far as i know there was no old codes there.. :y
-
I was thinking if the MAF codes had been thrown by a dodgy crank sensor they may be leading you up a blind alley if not cleared.
-
How can i clear the codes..
-
How can i clear the codes..
Anyone near you got a code reader?
-
Not that i know of mate..Go to go off to France speak tomorrow night..
-
Any idea anyone as i need this to be fixed asap.. :y
Ok i am making an executive decision and getting a MAF sensor,, Thats what i think..Anyone want to talk me out of it.. :)
-
Anyone got a good cheap MAF sensor then.. :-?
-
Car sorted..MAF sensor at fault, car running smoothly again and for sale. :y
