Title: Cylinder Numbering

On the 4 pot, how are the cylinders numbered from front to back standing in front of the car looking at the engine?
Is it as simple as 1-2-3-4

firing order is from front of engine at cambelt 1.3.4.2 no 1 cylinder at front of engine  :y

spark plug leads are numbered 1234 and thats how they go on plugs :y

So if "My Naff Code Reader" software refers to cylinder 4 would that be the 4th cylinder in from the front or the 3rd (as per firing order)

That would be both! Cylinder 4 is the closest to the windscreen and 3rd in firing sequence. WHat is the "My Naff Code Reader" saying about number 4 cylinder?

Right, pull the plug, check for oil in the well on number 4. Check the plug is intact and clean. Another fave for misfires is if they are cheap plugs the cap can screw itself loose and can cause an intermittant misfire. Try those for starters :y

Plug 4 is fine, only reassembled the engine yesterday after changing the HG. Plugs are GM ones. It had this problem before HG went too.
How does it detect a misfire?
Also i reckon the cam sensor wants replacing.
the 0170 code could be MAF i read earlier, it brings up the emissions light.
Worth noting none of these faults bring up the EML.
