going to start re-placing the wishbones tomorrow afternoon , how easy are these to do , as never had to replace them so far ??
i have been told they can be swines ?
any easy tips to share before i start .
thanks mick :y

There easy to get off its putting them back on that can be a pain
-
Do one side at a time, give yourself a couple of hours and be careful with the rear bolt
-
get a cold chisel or something wedge shaped to wedge the clamp open when removing the knuckle pin. Fit the rear bolt/bush in first, torque the bolts correctly with the suspension loaded/on the ground. Which is a pain as any torque wrench of that range will be too long and the handle will foul on the ground. Unless anyone has a further tip on that? Oh yeah, i revered the car in and out of the drive a couple of times to let the suspension settle
before torquing the bolts. The wishbones settle at a funny angle when you drop the car down off the jack.

Jack the car under the suspension - I used the hub - that way the suspension is squashed and I can fit underneath

do the front bolts up as tight as you can with a smaller wrench while the bushes are loaded (ie car on the ground) then jack up to do the final torque up :y
-
Or you could put it all back together drive the front of the car on to car rampsand then torque up the bolts that way you can still get under the car and the suspension will be loaded.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm all but finished doing my nearside wishbone, got it all back together (eventually) and have just noticed that I've accidently swapped the 21mm bolts over so I've got loads of thread hanging down from the rear vertical bush and hardly any on the horizontal bush :-[ >:(
Will it matter if I leave them as they are because it was a pig to get back together? :-/

I did that - didn't take long to swap them back

That can be an MOT failure!
-
I swapped them over in the end.
I found the worst part of the job was getting the balljoint back into the pinch clamp after getting the wishbone bolts in first.
The strut carrier kept spinning round at an angle ::)
-
Doing the off side tomorrow.....................
Any tips/tricks that may help me out.
Can someone just confirm the install procedure, is it rear bolt, front bolt and finally ball joint pinch clamp?
This is how I did the nearside one and it seemed to be a pig to get the ball joint back into the clamp :-/
When I've done both sides I'm going to put her up on ramps to do the final torqueing up.
-
Angle the bottom ball joint out and lever the wishbone down as you feed the hub in.

I was worried about levering the wishbone down and damaging the new bushes as it doesn't drop down as low as the old one.
-
Don't be scared of it! :y :y :y
Should have seen me doing Johhnycboys ones at the East Anglia Meet last year... Sammy was hard at work :y :y :y

Lol, what do you think happens to them every time you jack it up :y
Plus the front one is free to rotate as its not tightened :y

Good man :y
Finished mine today, along with droplinks, front discs and pads.
Quick question - I pushed the piston in to expel the fluid within the caliper - will I need to bleed the front brakes as the pedel travel is somewhat excessive? :-/
-
yes mate , you will have to bleed them if you removed the calliper for easier access as mine kept falling round while fitting them wish bones !! :y
when you pushed the piston back , did u unscrew the cap to the brake fluid resevoir! :y

I removed the caliper from the carrier but did not remove the pipe.
I undid the bleed nipples to expel the fluid within the calipers, would this introduce air into the system?
-
good ??? shoulnt of done , did u crip the flexi pipe ??

In a word YES ::)
best way to allow the calliper to be pushed back is to take the top off the brake fluid reservoir but watch it doesn't overflow ;)
-
ps your brakes will need bleeding now:

Yeh too right, I'll change the fluid again while I'm at it, only did it last year ::)
Know what you mean about smashing your knuckles - I smashed the end of my right index finger when the ratchet slipped and the back of my right hand looks as if a dog has mauled it ;D
Drives a lot straighter though, needs the WIM treatment now :y
