Well today I was driving along the M4 this morning at approx 08:00 and saw a big gap in the traffic. SOOOOOOOOOOO.....................
I decided to put my foot down and see what I can get out of her. She done me proud clocked 130mph, as soon as I got to that speed off came the foot and gently slowed down to 75 - 80mph. I was proud of my 12 year old car she got to that speed. Vx's figures state 114 mph for the 2.0ltr!!!!.
What have you got YOUR car too to see what she can do?

Never above 140 out of the MV6. Still pulling well, but I had caught up with the others in the convoy by then.
-
120ish in the 2.0lt 8 valver but the sat nav said 105mph.....weird that one.... :-?
-
sitting at a ton coming down from pilocherie i pushed the pedal and the surge woke the wife up no bad for a tractor
-
Autobahn 2 years ago ... 146 on the speedo, showing 135 on the satnav, instant fuel consumption 12 mpg :(
slowed down to a steady 100 satnav (108 speedo) instant fuel up to 18 mpg !! :)

Thats because to cover there ar*es car makers calibrate the speedos to overread by about 10%

2cases of john smith and 4 bags of messages :)

When delivering cars I took a Carlton 2.0 to the red line in top gear - speedo nearly off the clock
-
Have'nt tried to take it over the 130 yet ::)
-
I haven't taken any Omega to its maximum speed yet, but they have all been quite quick.
-
These were all track runs, :question :question :question :question
or on the public roads :question :question :question
:-/ :-/
-
128 according to sat nav about 135 0n speedo and still had more to go
-
I had 130 out of my first 2.5 V6... but I have grown up since then, far to dangerous games on UK roads, for both public safety, and your licence!

Just to clarify, Jim was on an unrestricted portion of Autobahn in Germany, not a UK road..... :y
Most I've had was 70 in the UK, obviously....... :-X

Yes, Sorry I should have pointed that part out, I lived in Germany for 4-5 years and this was my daily commute to work ;D ;D

140mph not bad for a 2.5 V6
-
a very respectful 135mph on my own pvt stretch of motorway ofcourse
-
I have done silly speeds when younger, my Sunbeam had a hot cam and the highest gearing available and I took it right off the clock into valve bounce territory and still couldn't keep up with a big car at warp factor 3.
Yes I had a push rod lump up well over 7000rpm.
Bikes I am not saying!

I did find with the Carlton that a clogged fuel filter makes a big difference to performance

;D ;D ;D ;D Towable Home slows my Meega down somewhat.... Just wondering if Tech II could do anything to help ;D ;D ;D

I know a Tech2 owner who could... with a can of petrol and a box of matches.

::)I've had an indicated 143/4 but voted 131+ I don't think a 2.5 will do much over 130 despite what the speedo tells our ego. I quit while i was ahead, lifted off & let her slow down without braking.
Later that day TB told me my tyres were only rated 130mph.
Tried out of curiousity, no need to do it again. Started to feel very light for a big car! :-X
-
Got my diesel omega to 200 km/h (around 120-130 mph) but then i decided that fuel consumption is way too high :o
-
I should imagine these speeds were mostly done in other parts of the world, if not, the forum really should not be promoting and bragging about these types of speeds, I thought we were better than that.
I often look at the renault clit sport 197 forum and when these topics are discussed the renault admins often leave comments and lock the posts.
We cannot be seen to be doing these speeds.
IMHO.
No doubt you will have comments about this, but thats my opinion which all of us are entitled to.
:y

I thought I made clear that my highest speed from the MV6 was on the continent :-/
I very purposely have not mentioned the tractor or zx10, as the fastest speed from them was in UK

Do you know what I think?
I think that, there should be one day per year or bi-annually, when a certain stretch of motorway in the country is made one way and all rules lifted, so we can legally have a blast! Instead of speeding regularly with the risk of slow vehicles hindering us.... Let battle commence ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

Your not trying Dan.....
Ive had 140mph outa my 2.2.......tho it was after I had a few in the pub.....so I might have been seeing double ;D ;D

Can't tell what mine does, as the max speed limit in this country is 70mph.

Tho i do recall you telling me.....once... you got your pipe stuck in between the accelerator pedal and the carpet.....and before you could retrieve it......you got a ticket for doing a tad over 70mph on the motorway :o :o
-
125mph <then some idiot pulled out on me!!!>
-
In an MV6 with callibrated speedo, the needle was bang on 160 mph, i cant tell you where or when but it was legal (ish), gladly it wasnt my petrol, well i suppose it was, my taxes paid for it ;D

-
one and only once on a private road i had just over 120 which i was happy with as it was on LPG at the time.
-
Personally ive only had it up to 135/140 but with the tracking a mile out i didnt wanna take it any more.
As a passenger before i owned the car ive been in it while it done 155mph (got a pic somewhere to prove it which ill try to dig out) which i dont think was too bad for 4 up.
The car can get there no problem, but the brake fade is shocking at anything over 120. Am upgrade to 1144's will be on the cards if the omega stays!
-
i have had 155mph showing on sat nav 8-) still had a good bit more to go !!! :y
-
Ive got a 6ft4" wardrobe out of mine :D

I once lent my GPS to a mate of mine which driving through europe and, on returning it he proudly showed me the "max speed" of about 125 MPH he had established, sniggering that I wasn't going to beat that in my Rover.
About a week later I was using the GPS in a glider. I noticed that I had at least a 20 knot tail wind so I turned down wind, lowered the nose until I saw 140 knots of air speed then pulled out of the dive.
Made him scratch his head when I gave it back to him with a "high score" of 174MPH to beat ;D

Well all I can say to all the replies is IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN THATS FOR SURE!!!!!! I will let you all know that I did it to 1. Give her a clear out and 2) to see what she would do. I've done it and wont do it again as the brakes are not to efficiant at those kinds of speed's. So the purpose of this thread is.......
Stick to the speed limits of the roads you are all on and think SAFETY, thats the most important thing to do.
BE SAFE AND BE SEEN DON'T BREAK THE LAW!!!!
Thank you all for taking part in this poll.

it's a shame that there arent that many 'airstrip' days, open days where car clubs rent an old disused airstrip, have a radar trap a mile up the road and for a small fee you are allowed 'to go fo it'
Last time i went on one of those we had a ball, and i was doing really silly speeds in an old Mk2 cav
-
Where's IrmscherKris??? His car looks like a bit of a tool ::)

As long as there marshalled correctly and emergency services are in situ, people end up getting killed on events that are not correctly looked at from a health and safety point of view, losing control of a car at high speed needs someone behind the wheel who is better that an every day driver.
:y
-
with the price of fuel these days how wants to fly about in there cars at over a ton a nice 58 mph is good for the old MPG and money saving
-
I think "chucking it about" on a limited distance 2 to 3 mile strip ( if you are lucky .. most disused airstrips are only about 1 mile), followed by highspeed turns around a taxiway is a recipe for disaster.
My high speed run was a short part of over 50 miles of 3 lane road with no "turns" just a few "curves" ... called an autobahn .. :)

hence the reason why these are generally organised by well known, established and responsible car clubs, some of them even have scrutineering to ensure the cars are in good nick

Yep, It's a looong wait once it's in 4th gear. Makes me think an airfield would be no use to max out an Omega. You'd need about 5 miles at least.
Have tried it in the Westfield. Turned off the peri track onto a 6000 ft runway at about 50 and caned it. Got up to 125, realised I didn't have any sidescreens on and my eyeballs were vibrating so badly I couldn't see, so stopped - less than 1/2 way down the runway so I could have kept it planted for a little longer after all.

Yeah, most dissused airfields are pretty bumpy. Some stretches of the autobahn are paved in concrete sections also so it makes the motor twitch at high speeds. :o
-
had 140mph tonight coming bk from blackpool!!!!!!
