Title: Excessive tyre wear
Post by: Muskie on 23 March 2009, 09:59:40
Hi All ,
Just had to replace the passenger front tyre due to excessive wear on the inside. Obviously the tracking or something is out.
Is this something I can trust my local kwik fit/ ATS place to put right or do I need to get Vauxhall to sort out.
Please advise.
Thanks
Muskie

Usually kwik fit staff isn't able to set their own alarm clock let alone a car's geometry setup :-/

Before running off and having the tracking done also check the wishbone bushes for play. This is a common faultand will have to be rectified BEFORE any setup can be carrried out.

I've done mine a few weeks ago in about half a day time. No special tools needed really. I've bought a set of pattern wishbones from Fleabay complete with bushes and ball joint for just under £40 delivered :y

For wishbones try www.buypartsby.co.uk

I had new ones on last year without issue but having checked the inside of my front tyres this year - they were worn to the wire  :-[

To fix the problem I had the tracking reset at local tyre dealers and all ok now.

Stay away from Kwik Fit if you can and look for a local garage with a 4 way laser wheel alignment unit. Internet search may help.  :y

Thanks. I will order wishbones & get mine wheels re-aligned.

This will have to be next month as I am running short of cash now, having spent a lot on my mig - last w/e.
