hello all I am looking for advice. To start bought car 3 month since but has spent half that time in gettting repaired.
1 losing oil (rocker gaskets replaced)
2 Mayo in header tank (oil cooler replaced solved :y)
3 still losing oil (off side rocker gasket redone solved :y)
4 full timing belt kit
since getting timing kit done tick overs lumpy, they told me valve timing was out so set it while doing kit,but now occasionally when go to start engine seems tight, leave it a couple of mins then try again and will start but tick over is lumpy and wasn't prior to garage setting valve timing, been back to them and they say its ok but Im not convinced.Does anyone have any advice or point me in the direction of a good mechanic who can check the valve timing and if so reset it,Im in Wigan
Thanks

i think your right not to be convinced, it does sound like a timing issue, just hope nothing has got damaged in the process, perhaps a fellow oofer thats local to you might pop up soon & perhaps take a look,,,,good luck :y

cheers for that :'(,what damage can be caused,it goes alright when driving its just the occassional starting problem and the tick over when sat at lights I can feel the revs rising and then falling, but seems ok when driving

occassional to me suggests its not the timing its probily something simple like the idle control valve

would still like to have valve timing checked anyone any idea of cost to have it checked, because car was sweet as a nut before timing kit was done :-?
-
I think best thing I can do is yet another visit to the garage, anyone recommend a good garage who know what there doing,Im in Wigan but would travel within gtr manchester to get this sorted(more fuel saving who says 2.5 v6 is not enviromently friendly this one is its spent more time in garage than on road lol)

You're welcome to borrow my cam locking kit if you want to do it yourself. Not sure if I get the time to do it for you though. :-/
I can meet you at Heinz if you want to. :y

Not sure about that :D ;) but he does know his way around an omega! I would have recommended him too as he came to look at mine when I was having problems and had it sorted in an hour but I didn't know if you wanted to travel that far (or if he wanted to travel to you).
He will sort it!!! :y

cheers scottie7275,he sent me a pm last night and we made arrangements, hes coming to mine as hes on his way to scotland in the morning.Wish I had done this ages ago instead of p*ssing about with half bit garages that say this wants changing n that wants changing, feel as though in the 2 n half month had the car put alsorts of new bits on and its still not right, but trying to find someone local has been a total pain in the arse.I feel more confident now that Ive got someone who knows there way around omegas.

And the problem was? (asking the question but suspecting an air leak)
-
yes air leak, valve timing slightly out.But will be going down to there lock up for a few other things doing ie previous owners put vectra cam covers on so want them put right, new water pump and breathers cleaning, but at least I know they know what they are doing unlike the half bit garages Ive been using locally :D ;D :y
