Title: paper clip test
Post by: Robski on 28 March 2009, 09:44:53
I have done a paper clip test and got codes 12,12,12,19,19,19,12,12,12 the engine was not running and I am led to believe I should of got code 31 to indicate engine not running but I never has anyone else ever come across this,also since I have had the car the alarm system has never sounded but after doing paper clip test alarm system started sounding for approx 30 seconds it did this 4 or 5 times over 3 or 4 hours.Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Have you got any problems with the car I.E. won't start? 19 indicates crank sensor failure, not sure why you don't have a 31 though. As for the alarm does it beep 4 times when you turn the ignition off?

19 is your crank sensor. As for the alarm, possibly faulty power sounder. Under scuttle panel driver`s side. :y

Try unplugging the bonnet sensor fixed to the power steering reservoir

I must say I think it strange when doing the Paper Clip test without the engine running not getting a 31 code...   Anyone got any ideas why this is??

Re the missing 31.

If you have a 19, you will not get the 31, engine running or not.

Why is that then every time I have done a paperclip test there has always been a 31 code when engine not running.
So why not Jaime when the Crank Sensor Code is up?

you will get (with engine not running) either a 31 or 19 on the V6

19 = breaked crank sensor
31 = no rpm signal, which is non conclusive if it doesn't start (if it does start, crank sensor is likely fine, unless 19 stored)

Ok logical i suppose
