help me please

have you had a chance to check the vac system? Esp to the bulk head by the heater pipe, and elbow on top of the hbv?
-
Hi.
No hot air in car could be number of things ?.
1. have you or anyone being working on the coolant side of things lately, and perhaps got air trapped in the system ?.
2. when the engines at working temp, are both top and bottom radiator hoses hot / warm at all ?.
3. Does you fan work on all speed settings or just 1 or 2 ?.
Take it as you say vent selector isn't working you don't have electronic aircon ?.
4. does car show at normal working temp on gauge ?.
If not, or doesn't every show working temp, you could have perhaps sticking thermostat ?.
Can you describe any other systems, that may help ?.
Don't know if any of the above will help get you started ??. :-?
help me please

when you move the vent selector with the ign off can you here hissing as you turn the vent direction control? you should also hear the flaps operating as well :y
-
i had the same prob with mine
turned out to be vac pipes where set up wrong and the heater matrix needed a dam good clean out
all is sound now mate

in response to smegmatt1
1 i did recently swap out the coolant but the heating was not working before
3 i have the full range of fan speeds ie 1-4 and yes its the non electric air con
4 the temp gauge works well
as for 2 i will check when i get back
thanx :y

in response to unlucky alf
there is no hissing sound and no noise of flaps moving. with ign off or in position 2
-
i meant to add that i just noticed that two pipes passing thru my bulkhead high leve; rear left of engine bay have been cut and a small copper pipe fitted. as to by pass going thru the bulkhead and into the cabin?
dont suppose this is relevant? :-?

from what i gather the vent motors and mixer flap :-/, are vac operated if the vac system aint right, good chance its related.

some pics of vac pipes on my 3.2. I AM ASSUMING yours should be the same or similar? these where talen with the wipers removed
pic shows vac pipe elbow to nipple onhbv(black round thing)

Sounds extremely relevant! It sounds like someone has deliberately bypassed the heater matrix so no water goes into it. Only one possible reason for that - the heater matrix leaks. :( You could try reconnecting it and see what happens, but my money would be on you being ankle-deep in water.
Having only had my own Miggy for a month I can't tell you how easy it is to get the matrix out - it depends on the bloke who designed the car. (On the Cortina you undid two screws and it was in your hand, on the Sierra you took most of the car apart to get at it.) Others on here should be able to tell you, or you could ask that nice Mr Haynes! :)

just had look at what mr haynes says and it looks like i gotta take the dash apart and steering column supports. oh what fun! :D
think im going to try re-connecting and maybe go for a swim ill try n update what happens :y

THere is a how to on here I think. Look in the maintanence section I think its in there.

Have a look at the colour photo here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565204
Although the top pipe has been removed, do you mean that these pipes have been joined :question
-
reply for robg those are the pipes that have been cut on mine and had a pipe put between?
-
As Cybertrucker says. It may well be that the heater matrix is leaking hence the bodged bypass. Only way to confirm that is hose water through one of the bulkhead connectors and see if it comes into the cabin :(
-
wont that mess with me electrics?
-
Four options. 1) Instead of hose (bit drastic in your scenario) flexi funnel in bulkhead connector and jug of water, if matrix is leaking should only wet your footwell area. 2) could possibly be O ring seals where the pipes connect to matrix (still a PITA). 3) Matrix is breaked (another PITA). 4) Do without heat :(
-
well it is nearly summer time? i just wont drive at night, cold days, when it rains etc. :D :D :D
thanx :y
-
there was a post a while back showing that by cutting dashboard in a couple of places the matrix will come out easier but i cant find it, but yes it definately sounds like a heater bypass :(
