As you can guess, I am sorting the end float on the gearbox :)
Need a bit of help. ::)
I am presuming the end float is the movement of the inner shaft against the outer shaft in an up and down movement (with bell housing facing upwards) :y
To measure this I am pencil marking inner shaft and using a feeler gauge am measuring movement.......
Without any packing washers, the inner shaft rotates easily by hand. If I pack the washer up (1.5mm) and torque down correctly, I find the inner shaft will not turn at all by hand.
Is this the pressure of the sonnax washer and packers stopping it ?
Am I doing this all correctly ?? :-/ :-/

im afraid not,to keep things simple if the pump face is not damaged then you do not need any packing washers.

It has a slight (.5mm) inner ring (where your arrow is pointing). The outer ring is smooth, even and undamaged.
The inner shaft moves about 1.5 to 2.0mm. Is this normal ?
Where does the end float come into this?

there is approx 1mm of slop in the fit between the first motion shaft and the qverdrive clutch housing which you have to ignore.if you lift the shaft gently to take up the slop(no real effort required as you are onlly lifting the shaft)then you lift the shaft a tad more(more effort required because you are now lifting the shaft AND the overdrive housing) that almost imperceptible bit of slop is the clearance you are trying to measure

Right. It has the new washer installed and is torqued up.
The shaft lifts very easily with almost no effort about 1 to 2mm. After that there is no more movement.
What does the outer shaft do ? ::)
