Title: Oil cooler replacement

Going to replace my breaked oil cooler at the weekend.

Should I be changing the oil and filter or is this not necessary? I only changed it 2 months ago!

Yes.....when running the oil is much higher pressure than the water so you get oil in the water.

Once the engine is turned of the oil pressure drops off pretty fast. The coolant presure remains for many hours after and hence some coolant gets forced into the oil

What were the symptoms?  How did you know it was the oil cooler?

Main symptom is oil in the water.....so a creamy mayo in the header tank

Flush flush flush flush and keep flushing the cooling system . I had my cooler replaced last month and we still haven't managed to get all the oil out of the cooling system ( even took header tank off and washed it out in the bath with washing up liquid ) and yet the oil left in the system collects in the tank. I am not loosing oil so must be the remains of the old cooler letting go . Have now resorted to adding some detergent to the coolent to try and break down the last of the oil befor I replace the hbv . So keep flushing

You cant get an additive specificaly for this job which works very well.

I would NOT use detergent as it will corrode  the system
