Could it be a tight belt? I don't mean the cambelt, I suspect the drive belt. Did it make a noise yesterday?  ::)

some of the new VX belts are noisey.  After 5k miles mine settled in and has gone quiet.  The alternative is that the new rollers and tensioners are faulty.

does the noise go away after the engine is warm?

Did the people who did the cambelt know what there were doing?

fair one: it is the more obvious question really.....  Having said that it may be better to ask

did the people who did the cambelt appear to know what they were doing?  and did they really know what they were doing?

What!! :o :o :o   It should be a gold plated, Rolls Royce job for that! ::) ::)

I hope that included the water pump! :-? :-?

After that cost I would certainly go straight back to that dealer and give them the problem to fix no matter what. ;)  Anyway if any one else touches it you let this garage off the hook for warranty cover if the engine (heaven forbid) seizes. :-X

likely to have give you a free cup of instant coffee and called you sir a few times: that's the usual sign that they are dipping into your wallet big time.  However I guess you may be paying central london hourly rates: higher than the rest of the UK.

I'd suspect a noisey VX belt but it is not unknown for VX to mess up fitting it....
