Hi
Seem to be having all sorts of problems with the car at the moment fortunately only minor.
The car has suddenly developed a really awful rattly noise, like a metallic noise from around the auxillary drive belt area, its the same kind of noise as noisey tappets all rattly like. Anyway i had a look and the tensioner on the belt looks pretty muched knackered, i think it may have dry out and seize altough i would expecy more of a squeel than a rattle. So my question is how easy is it to replace (looks simple enough) and can you buy them on there own or as part of a set for the whole drive pulley set up.
If anyone think it could be anything else then any help would be grateful
cheers

tensioner pulley around £20 iirc, entire tensioner around £45.

When were you're cam belt and tensioners last changed.
My previous omega v6 developed a metalic rattle in the same area. It turned out to be one of what looked like a bearing on one of the cam belt tensioner pully's. It had worn apart, and a piece of metal was sticking out and hitting something. Obviously the rattle got faster, as the revs were increased.
I think it's reccomended that the tensioners are changed with the timing belt anyway. If it is this, I would definately get it sorted before using the car to avoid damage.
Just a thought, but hopefully you're problem will be confined to the auxilary belt. Good look mate :y

hi
thanks for the info, had the cambelt replaced only about 6 months ago so i hope its not that.
When i undo the bolt on the tensioner will it just pull off then?? i could try having the engine running without it on to see if the noise disapears
thanks

Put socket & bar on tensioner (15mm) and push to left to release aux belt. Note how belt fitted/routed and then remove belt. There's a small torx bolt holding air con pipe down right hand side of engine (facing car) you will have to remove if you want to completely remove belt. Then undo 15mm nut on tensioner and pulley will pull off.
As Hayes says refitting is opposite of removal :y
