Title: Cam Covers
Post by: Paul K on 07 April 2009, 11:06:07
First I would like to thank all who have given me advise to get my car up and running. I'm please to say it has passed the MoT and is back on the road. My question now is is it possible to fit the cam covers off of the Vectra 2.5. looking and pictures on E-bay I can see I'll have to do something about the oil filler but apart from that is there any other problem?

Don't bother - nothing wrong with the current ones.

Seals do go - due to age

Been covered lots of times this - the metal vectra covers will fit (the oil filler is different but not important).

The problem is that you have to make sure that your breathers are regularly cleaned.

Plastic covers are only torqued to 8Nm so any build up of pressure from blocked breathers will blowpast the rocker gaskets and give you a small oil leak.

If you torque down metal Vectra covers this blowpast is not available and pressure will have to escape elseware i.e. crank oil seal and you'll have a BIG oil leak.

Personally i think they metal covers look great when painted up but you MUST keep the breathers clean ::)

Thanks If there is a problem of a build up of pressure then could I not fit a small presure release valve in the covers? any idea what sort of presure are we talking about?

i think someone asked that before as well (bit like an oil catch tank with breather on top that vents to atmosphere)

try a google search using advanced settings to include OOF (search engine on actual site is rubbish)
