Post by: raywilb on 10 April 2009, 19:15:52
noticed today oil all over the front of my engine. if i,m right in saying that thingimijig on the front of my engine with a large bore short pipe is the egr unit, then the oil appears to be from the front thats attatched to the plastic. can anybody suggest why there may be oil in that area   -   Cheers  :-[

Egr is by drivers cam cover, just forward of the fuel lines. So i think a bit more info needed by the looks. Or maybe a pic?

Sometimes there can be an oil/crap build-up in EGR , a good soak with oven cleaner can do the job - also whip of the plastics at the front that say turbo diesel and check for oily gunk. The problem is that even the slightest oil weepage around the front of the engine gets thrown all over by the bloody viscous fan. So it can sometimes look alot worse than it is.  :y
