Title: Driver door not unlocking with remote
Post by: DezB on 21 April 2009, 16:37:15
Hi Folks

I guess the answer to this must be in the 799 postings but I can't find it...

The remote operates on all doors except for the drivers door, however the alarm/immobilisor is activated/deactivated just fine.  I found that out because if I don't press the open button on the remote and just use the key to open the door the alarm sounds.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be, has anyone had this themselves?

Hoping someone can help.  :-[

Many thanks

DezB

PS it has only started in the last couple of days if that helps

Take off the plastic lock surround inside the drivers door, give it a clean up and lubricate. Sometimes they get a bit sticky.

Quite probably a lazy motor -- fiddly to replace, but not highly technical. I believe Tunnie did a "How To" somewhere -- if I can find it I will post the link

Edit :  It was MarksDTM and can be found here:

You are correct about the alarm sounding when you open with the key. this appears to be default spec (features in the opel / vauxhall booklet). Once you turn on the ignition, the alarm sounders goes back to silent and alarm deactivates normally

WHAT CAN QUITE OFTEN HAPPEN IS THE MECHANICAL PARTS OF THE LOCK IN THE DOOR CAN GET TIGHT & THE MOTOR IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO PUSH IT, YOU CAN USUALLY TAKE IT OUT & FREE OFF WITH WD40 THEN REFIT, NO NEW PARTS NECCESSARY, THE THING ABOUT THE ALARM GOING OFF & BEING ABLE TO TURN IT OFF ON THE IGNITION WITH THE KEY IS A STANDARD VAUXHALL THING.

Yes, Gee-Man -- a good first course of action, which might well work, so worth a try. However, these motors are notorious for failing ( I have one in my own door that refused to co-operate with WD40 and am just "living with it" until I get time).

BTW -- can you please stop using all caps in your posts .... 'tis considered shouting -- Cheers  :)

oops sorry, this usually sorts them out but obviously motors can fail, especially if they have been working stiff locks for a while.

Similar problem. If it did lock or unlock the button moved very slowly. Read a post on here that advised removing the lock retaining screws from the door end one at a time and squirting WD through the hole.

Did that, jiggling the straw around as I sprayed, and 3 days later it is still working fine. Not bad for a quick fix, but might take the card off one sunny day.
