Title: Oil cooler pipes
Post by: big-o-bob on 24 April 2009, 11:00:53
Hi

Don't want to sound thick, but i'm still having problems changing the oil cooler! :-[

Got down to the oil cooler itself, and then removed the oil filter to get to the oil pipes.  Tried to loosen one of the oil pipe unions (just above the oil filter), but my 19mm spanner seems a bit loose around the nut, and to be honest access is tight with the spanner I have so I dont round them off.

What type of crowfoot spanner is the best.  I have seen some on ebay, that fit on a socket wrench - are these any good.

Also, is any kind of jointing compound used when putting the nuts back on.

thanks (I really dont want to shell out £570 vauxhall have quoted, when I have got this far).... :-X :y

think i paid about £15 for a set of Draper Expert ones.  That was before the Fiscal oppsup hit, and the pound went down the gary glitter, and prices shot up though.

hay big o bob just finished changing me oil cooler, gotta wait til 4pm today for the sealant to set.

when it came to the oil unions i could only get one undone and left the other in. as it was really hard to access the unions like u posted esp with the sensor in the way :y

Easy enough with 19mm crowsfoot socket.

And no, no sealant required on refitting these - just don't go over the top on tightening.
