I like the guy...

You're nicked, sunshine - but not just yet ...

Emma Lucas was stricken with guilt after stealing £3,000 from Sainsbury's, in Chestfield, Kent, where she worked.

Twice she tried to give herself up, first at Herne Bay police station, then at Canterbury.

Both times she was told to go away because there was no one available to arrest her, as it was a Bank Holiday. It took her another two days to get her collar felt, a court has been told.

Maybe she should have said she wanted to confess to doing 45mph in a 40mph zone after downing a sweet sherry.

The Old Bill would have scrambled a SWAT team sharpish.

Miss Lucas, who had been forging customer refund forms, was given a suspended sentence and ordered to perform 180 hours of community service.

As part of her service to the community she should volunteer to man the front desk at her local nick.

Sadly accurate state of affairs, maybe all the police were out looking for a couple of lost computer discs... :o
