Title: Help EML Just come on!
Post by: richardirv on 26 April 2009, 14:39:18
I have just done the pedal trick, code was 10 1 10 10 which is 0100 i assume. Can someone tell me what that means please?

Cheers

Edit: Just been searching and it looks like MAF. Can someone confirm this.

I have  a pipercross on and I know it can cause the MAF Sensor to fail. Will putting the standard air box back on help or has the damage been done?

Engine running perfect though!

Believe there's a thread on here on how to clean the MAF sensor. Its based on a Granada Scorpio one, though I think the principle maybe the same. Maybe worth looking through the OOF forum to find it.

Or you could try locating one on through OOF parts section, or ebay, or even breakers yard if you have one close ? - Just an idea ??.

I have just had it all off and  put the standard air box back on, still EML is on, MAF looked spotless but I will have a look on what to clean although as I said it looks brand new.

Yeah not gonna order one just yet, One thing to mention is that i never oiled the Pipercross, just choose to clean it frequently, So oil shouldn't be a problem.

ahhh maybe a red herring then, its the oil on oiled filters that does the damage

Just hope I read the code correctly with the pedal trick.

bizarrely I suspect the MAF on hers wasnt right, swapped it with mine for a test, and now both are running fine!  so maybe the connector wasnt right, I didnt have any codes though.

v6 MAFs are reliable enough that using a 2nd hand one should be fine.

Buy a brand new "pattern" MAF sensor from eBay. I did about a year ago and have had no trouble since.

£33.50.

There's a whole bunch of information here:

And here...

Long threads, but worth a read. Your car, being a 2.6, is an OBD2 car like mine, or BBW (Drive By Wire) so will suffer from thr same problems as my 3.2 has in its life.

Cheers for all the advice chaps, might try the clean first (can I wreck it if I do it wrong?) Then if it doesn't work get a second hand one or one off ebay.

I just dont wanna try and clean it then find out it has  made it worse and won't run. whats the risk?

Will this stuff do the trick? http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_202903_langId_-1_categoryId_165750

Ok just bought that carb cleaner, can someone tell me how much to spray, im guessing a couple of quick bursts onto the sensor will do it.

Gonna try it now if someone confirms that pretty quick, might rain again soon!! lol
