Title: front spring broken
Post by: Dirk on 26 April 2009, 21:52:52
Good evening,

The right hand side front spring has broken.
Luckely it is still driving ok at the moment as it is only the bottom ring that has broken off but u will need to get this fixed before it's MOT is due.
What kind of price can i expect to get this one replaced and can i replace just the one or is it better to replace both front springs?

I am looking at another option too which is getting a complete strut from a scrap yard and replace it myself.
Is this easy to do on this car?

The car is a 1998 2.0 GLS

Better replacing both springs at the same time to avoid any handling issues. There are some available on FleaBay in pairs or you could nip down to the breakers - I hear that there is a new one opened in Inverkeithing where you buy the parts online first and then turn up to remove them.

Hope that helps.  :y

Thanks for the info  :y
Are the springs very easy to replace?
I don't think i will replace the springs myself as it probably will need special tools.
I have done a complete strut on a renault 5 ones but this car is a little bit heavier  :)

You will find a "How to" somewhere on this site. Job is reasonably straightforward but if you are not confident then may be best left for the experts.

Just checked the website for the breakers at Inverkeithing. They have a GLS Omega in at the moment (looks like a 4-pot) - might be worth a call.

When it's all done you'll need to re-set the camber, so a full geometric is also on the cards.
Well worth it though. Properly done, the Mig will be even more of a pleasure to drive.  :y

Thanks for all the info. I will have a look at the miggy at the scrappers.
I persume that will have to take them from the car myself?
Next saterday my other car goes to the garage for an MOT and will see what it will cost me if they are going to do it. If the price difference is to big then i will do it myself.
