Title: Found the cause of the "pulling to the left"
Post by: Turk on 29 April 2009, 22:03:49
Had full geometric done a month ago and it's just not been right compared to the other times I've had it done.
Car is pulling to the left and scrubbing the tyres.
Checked the wishbone bushes and they are ok. Steering idler is ok.

Finally traced it to a worn left hand bush/joint on the rod the track-rod ends connect to.
GMF have quoted £100 +vat. FMP quoted £86.00 all in.

Not sure what it's called as I just described it to them and got a price. I didn't get the proper name.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what it's called ?  I can then have a hunt on tinternet for a better price.

Is it the log bar or the tie rods?

Bar is about 2 foot long and is best described as similar to the handlebars of a motorcycle.

It probably has different names, depending on who you speak to. Centre Tie Rod sounds right.
Basically it's:
Wheel > Track rod gubbins > The Wotsit < Track Rod gubbins < Wheel

Yes, Centre Tie Rod Drag Link is what it's called on this link to the same item for a BMW.

A young lad a t work clobbered a kerb while oppsing about in his Clito Turbo go-faster-wotsit. He went to get his tracking etc checked as it was pulling hard to the left.
His problem? A flat tyre! :-? It's a run-flat and he never noticed or checked the pressure! (onboard monitoring doesn't work)

Found one, but it's gonna work out about £5.00 more than FMP.
Thanks for all the input folks. At least now I know what it's called and that FMP are about as cheap as I will get.

There is this one, but I'm thinking I may as well take it off my Elite if I go for 2nd hand.

In the link it says this:
Vauxhall Omega Centre Steering Bar

Vauxhall part number 90510648.

The part fits all Omegas except those with lowered sports chassis.

What model do they mean by this :-?.

Yeah, I noticed that. Can't mean a lowered standard Mig 'cos my Elite is 40mm lowered with no issues.
Can't figure out how it would affect it anyway.   :-?

Lowered sports chasis aka MV6 as an mv6 is lower than an elite cdx etc

Don't think it's an MV6 they're talking about. I lowered my Elite by 40mm and had no problems after fitting concentric adjustable Poly-bushes on the rear and a full geometric.
Damn fine handling for a big old barge too  :y

Yes, MV6 has different suspension, but I can't see why the Centre Tie Rod would be different.
