Title: OIL FILLER STILL MAYO

Hi guys
i recently asked a question about a mayo type substance in the top of the oil filler cap in general the advice was to give her a long run to sort it
i have just be down to devon and back a round trip of approx 240 miles mostly motorway
i have been back for about two days just checked pipe mayo still there but not so much
i was wondering if a good service might help trouble is im a bit strapped for cash and a complete idiot when it comes to car maintenance
my local dealership has quoted £200.00 for a major service.
the car was serviced my a dealership up until 2006 after that a bit sketchy previous owner a idiot got her looking nice again but mechanics not my thing should i try and raise this money will it help this problem
appreciate any help and advice you can offer

Have you done any short journeys in the 2 days since you got back?

Generally small amounts of mayo in the filler cap are due to short journeys where the engine does not get hot enough to clear the condensation.

yeah the car generally is only used for short journeys on average about 8 miles a day

Yep, that'll be the cause! doesn't matter about the long journey if you do short journeys afterwards!

yeah give it a bloody good service change the oil for GM 10W40 Semi Synthetic and i bet that will clear the problem use vauxhall oil as it seems to not make the oil cap mayoish as much as say Castrol GTX :o

to add i think you might need to clean your breather pipes aswell, there is a how to in the maintenance sectiion. im sure one of the other members will be able to put up a link.

i suggest cleaning the breathers cos your water vapour isnt disappearing which might be the breathers, also if these arnt cleaned your other gaskets can go which is ten times more work :o :o :o

i always been spanner shy but lost my job bout a month ago and have been playing wit me miggy. its a real easy job and def worth doing.
