Hi, I've just bought a 2.5 V6 1998 . What is the best petrol?
I had a Volvo which ran better on Tesco 99 Octane.
Is it worth the extra cost in the Omega?
Look forward to any advise.

BP Ultimate or Shell V Power
-
I once used super unleaded, but learnt that unless you have a real 'high performance' car i.e. Porsche or Bugatti, then standard unleaded is quite good enough. :y :y
-
I definately get better mpg on the higher octane fuels, tend to use Shell V Power.
Supermarket fuels are cheap for a reason imho.
EDIT: corrected fuel name

try BP 102 it costs £2.50 a litre but does make a difference seems to give the 3 litre v6 a noticible bit more tourqe
if your not rich enough to afford BP 102 then try Shell V Power

LPG... ::) ::) ::) Then you can have all the noise and power of a V6 with the economy of an oil burner ;) ;) ;D ;D :y :y

At the price I would hope it makes more than a difference! :o :o :o :o it should make your car an F1! ::) ::) :D :D :D ;)

lol i bought it when i was nr silverstone last yr it did make a difference i only bought £30 quids worth around 12 litres odd but im convinced i noticed it i had the sales bumf and it said it will only work on cars with knock sensors which the omega does have

Have a go with Shell V Power, a couple of tanks full, it does change the engine, weird but true ;) ;)

Best fuel? In this climate of government rip off? I go for the nearest and cheapest ;D but my cars heading for the scrap heap in the sky in about 3 weeks despite costing me a fortune to get it through mot :P

Always use Shell V-power (BP Ultimate if I cant get that). It does make a difference and altho it costs more it does seem to give better mpg as well as better performance. I work for a supermarket and always makes me laugh when I see people in things like Porshe 911s fill up . Must dig it out but there was a review of all these fuels by one of the jap performance mags some time ago where they tested them and Optimax (as it was then) came out on top, then BP ultimate , then (someway behind) Tesco 99ron then standard unleaded. Used to have a grey import Prelude vtec and that only liked the optimax as it was set up for 99ron not 95ron fuel and if I ever had to put in a full tank of std unleaded she almost pinked. I can certainly run my mig (2.5) on std supermarket fuel but she is a lot smoother and seemingly a tad more powerful on the vpower. Dont think its all in the mind anyway ;D

Thanks everyone,
Can not justify cost of LPG conversion but I take your point.
I will try Shell V power and let you know if I see a difference.
Again thanks

I used to use sainsburys super unleaded, but after finding this, i now use tesco 99.
See what you think....

Fuel is fuel, all you need is any old 95 ron in a Miggy.
It's only a mig - not a formula one car :y
The only benefit to the "premuim" fuels, is the additives that can clean the fuel system etc.... but you only need it once in a while, not all the time.
-
the BMW on that Ramp in the thorney bumf is not an M3 looks more like a plain jane E46 to me
has no M3 front splitter nor m3 grilled front wings
Tesco 99 isnt avaiulible anymore is it? our local tescos told me?
-
i used 95ron fuel for a while and she went ok on it (made 232bhp) but im using 97ron super and my 3.0 v6 goes so much better.
noticeably more power, much better mpg, and with my exhaust i have fitted she pops and bangs much more too so its well worth the extra 6p a litre in my books. going for another RR in the summer to see what difference it actually made!
if you putting it in tho make sure you put at least 3 tanks through her before you disregard the super

And car is a car? ;)
There are big differences in the premium fuels, and can make a considerable difference. Filling up with BP Ultimate over regular BP is only about £2 more.
For the last year i have been running my 2.2 on BP standard fuel, occasionally using Ultimate, its much quieter and smoother on BP fuel, and the Ultimate stuff does add a noticeable improvement.
mpg is better driven normally
i found high revs - 4k+ there is more pull
smoother burn
Usually when ever i do a road trip i fill up with Ultimate, i need all the bhp i can get in a 2.2 ;D
That said i did average 34.6 mpg to York, fully loaded with friend & cruised at 80+

i stopped using supermarket fuel after reading what it did to the 2.5TD's if it makes them smoke then it mustnt do a petrol engine much good
Fifth gear tested sainsburys & tescos fuel and found high ammounts of silca in them
