Hi all, it's me again same car again 2.5 auto elite, this one is to do with the air con, so a few days ago i went to kwik fit to recharge the air con after 2 blooming hours of waiting the boys in there said that a leak in the high pressure valve was a problem and needs to be sorted,
my question here is how much of a problem that really is, and is there a way of fixing it?

If they mean the pressure control valve ,it is a bit of a bugger.It is located behind the dash on the passenger side and the two pipes that enter from the bulk head need removing,to allow you to remove it.
Glove box and part of the passenger side trims at dash board nee dremoving and then you need to lay upside down in the passenger footwell and do the rest by touch.
I know well because I replaced mine last week along with the aircon compressor,but I did have the able assistance of my friendly aircon engineer.

I think they're most likely talking about the high pressure fill valve, where they were trying to fill from. When I had mine regassed this year the bloke had problems removing his hoses without losing the refrigerant he'd just put in. I ended up buying a new valve from Vauxhall
Part Number 52458177 courtesy of andyc cos my dealer couldn't find it :-?, and you don't need the green viton 'O' ring that it seals to the pipe with, it comes with one! Oh well, at least I have a spare! ;) :y

Bugger. :) . I did talked to a mechanic about it and he said that there is a way of checking using same sort of test he could carry out to find where the leak is. also for them (kwik fit) to say there is a leak i only can imagine that it may not be inside the car. Just wishfull thinking i suppose. Thanks mate.

Hi again Andy B, i think you are right on the money. how much one of those babys would cost and is that the one on the top or the one on the bottom of the thingy? :)

Normal method for checking for A/C leaks is with a "gas sniffer probe" which is past all around the pipework and components and it will send out a bleep when a leak is detected.
Another option is to have a colour dye added with the gas charge and then to view the area with a UV light and vision glasses.
Where abouts are you as I am happy to give you details of a very reliable AC engineer who will sort the problems out for you.

It was the grand total of £4.95 inc vat @17.5% and it was the valve right at the front of the car. The A/C bloke tried to tell me it was part of the pipe, which is over £100, but it does unscrew. :y

Yyou didn't need a sniffer to find my leak, you could see the dye pi55ing out all over the place.
Isn't andyc in the other Bury (St Edmunds) close by you? :-/

Funny enough that's what that mechanic said to me as well, i'll try to pop in to vauxhall tomorrow, who knows i might get a discount as all my boss vans are from there, :) blooming mechanics i never trusted them and never will. as long as i don't need to take the engine off ill do anything to kep their hands off my pride and joy. the one on top is part of the pipe and as far as remember the top is low pressure & the one at the front is the high pressure ...... but I have been known to be wrong sometimes! ;) ;D ;D ;D
