Just got an 0420 code from pedal test which is cat effieciency on bank one,how can i pinpoint the problem.

What do you mean by safe to ignore,will the light switch itself off after a few days,like it did before.Just never read the code last time.

It should do or you could get it cleared. It'll only show the light after x number of stored faults.

No, the light comes on whenever ECU detects a problem.

Its unlikely to switch off, or if it does, soon come back.
2.6/3.2, but particularly the 3.2, suffer this problem. They have a pre Cat, with sensors each side, and as the pre cat's efficiency fails, the light comes on. The main cat is still working fine, so will pass MOT emissions.
solutions include:
ignore - but light is annoying, and may mask other more serious faults
replace cats - expensive
move lamda sensors - see how other members have got on with doing this

Last time it happened was about two months ago,but went off after a few days.Brother-in law put his universal reader on it,but kept saying something to do with wheel speed senser.
