Title: Radiator draining
Post by: ScottieMV6 on 10 May 2009, 15:49:02
Right got everything back together after changing the oil cooler and wondered if anyone had any tips for getting the radiator drain plug out?

Tried mole grips and pliers and short screwdriver but all too big!!!  :D

It don't come out - it opens.  Turn red plastic bit anti-clockwise - yoy may need mole grips to get it started.  To shut tighten by hand! :y

I would have thought it does come out, to change the o rings.

I remember Jedi Master Scrote Scratcher posted a picture of one recently.

Scottie, is this what you need? If you only want to drain coolant, no need to remove it, just turn and it opens.

Would have thought he wanted to flush the system through as he's just changed an oil cooler  :-?

It will come out, but it doesn't need to to drain the coolant. As said, I've had to start mine of with water pump pliers.  :y

Got an appointment in the morning with daughters headteacher so won't get started on it till late morning.

I'll have another go at getting it open myself tomorrow. If not i'll make sure the car starts and then think about coming to yours later in the week (Tuesday is a no go for me).  :y
