I know that the engine revs higher when staring from cold but mine's doing 2000 odd revs when it first starts. Once warm it returns to the normal 600-700 revs tickover. I suspected the Idle control valve as it hiccuped a couple of times on tickover at the weekend, just as you dip the clutch and thought it was going to stall but it didn't. Checked the idle valve and although a bit grotty not too bad. Gave it a clean and put it back in. No different. Any ideas?
Had a lot of trouble with the Monza's and Idle valves, there was a seperate ECU for this which had a habit of filling with water if you weren't careful! Is there a seperate box of tricks for the 3.0 V6? Maybe that's at fault? It's definately the idle valve which is letting the air in as when you pinch the rubber feed hose you can stall the engine, a little trick I learnt from Monza days.

Possibly a vacum leak that disapears when warmed up :-/
-
Could be I suppose, can't hear any hissing though!
Although it's annoying it isn't serious so I can live with it and more importantly use the car but I would like to get it sussed.

icv can take a couple of attempts at cleaning before settling down, but usually stalls in my experience.
Could also be miss fire at tick over, check for oil in plug wells, plugs leads and dis all the usuall....
or fuel related, when was fuel filter last changed?

There's no missfire, just higer revs which does settle down after warming up. No oil either!

Took the Idle Valve off and good it a good clean Monday evening and it didn't seem to make any difference. Started at about 2000rpm and then dropped to normal revs once warmed up. At least it didn't stick at 2000 rpm, that woud be interesting!
I arranged to take it to someone who has a Tek2 to see if there any faut codes, went out to start it this morning and it started fine, ran at around 1000rpm initialy (this is normal for this car, is it normal per se?) and quickly dropped back to normal tickover :) Maybe it's ok now but I'm going to get the codes read anyway just to see.

Iain,
Yes I do remember the Monza Ide Valves >:( One of my Monza's had a leak (rain water wise) and I never did find out where it was coming in. It meant I had to take out the Idle Valve ECU out occasionaly and drain the water out of it before it would work again ;D Those were the days :-/
Anyway, back to the story. No fault codes. None. Zilch. That's good right? My man looked at all the real time data and he said everything was fine with that as well. Isn't what you can see and do with Tek2 amazing? I wish I had one!!!
