Title: Locked in Parked position
Post by: kmason8282 on 15 May 2009, 20:08:51
Only recently I have found that when starting my car (1998 S Omega Elite Estate) the electronic 'system' will not release from Parked mode.   What I have to do is disengage the gear cover and release the yellow catch (left hand side of gear lever) to get the car into Driver/Reverse.

This has only started occurring during the past two weeks.  No history of issue similar prior, kinda has come out of the blue.

Has anyone got any pointers on this.

thx

Just to add some more colour to the issue it only seems to occur when I  attempt to start the car.  I have not had the issue in transit (at traffic lights, etc).

This could be circumstantial but also this may assist in the ascertaining the root cause.

cos you're still in D ......  ;)  ;)  ;)
Brake switch is the usual cause, can't remember how much they aare, but they're not expensive & easy to fit.  :y

Mine does this as well.
But why would anyone use park, in transit.

If you're gonna be pedantic, you should be applying the handbrake and putting the car in to neutral at lights ;)

If you're going to be lazy you might as well do just one operation ie put it in Park. Applying the handbrake & putting into N is two!!!  ;)  ;)  ;) :y :y

If you want to pass your test, you'll be applying the handbrake whether you select neutral or park ;) (selecting neutral is obviously quicker and less effort).

I passed my test 30 years ago! I now cross my hands when turning the wheel, hit kerbs when/if I do 3 point turn!  :-?

29 years ago for me, although I tend to avoid kerb clipping and rarely cross my hands on the wheel (mainly because I drive one handed).
