Compressor lives under the front driver's side wing/bumper. Also depends if a previous owner has been a tight arse & put ordinary dampers/shockers at the back, you should have thin plastic pipes going to the side of each of them.
-
If you turn the ignition on without starting you should hear the compressor/pump running, ( front of car ) if you have the correct shocks fitted ( unlike mine ) then when you load your car full you might feel a movement when you turn the ignition on.

Yes, seems i'm "at it again".
Pump sits behind front bumper drivers side and can be heard after start up, as Andy says. If you want to check further, load the car fully, then start the car and sit on the bumper/boot ledge, feet on the floor, you will feel the car rise. Also,if still unsure and handy for working on/under the rear of the car, you can pop to rose joint off the level sensor box drivers side of dif. and raise the right angle arm to raise the rear of the car to a silly hight, engine running or the battery will go flat. "stuff boss"? Not aware of that publication, is it to do with suspension? Or how to get one over on your employer? (joke kj, nothing more ;) )
I take it you have not seen the "Wayne" thread kj?
Nice bloke, played in a band, but not a clue about cars and paranoid streak. It took 115 pages of almost every single member on here telling him his head gaskit had not blown for him to finally beleive us and not his local mech who didnt have a clue.
He was a "musician" in every sense but we got there in the end. Bless him. :-)
